Police Bait Car

I found this video on CNN.com where a car thief steals an unlocked "bait" car and tries to drive off with it. Not only is the car equipped with a video camera and tracking device, but it can also be turned off remotely while locking the doors, trapping the car thief inside. Awesome.

Austin Intensive

To kickstart year two of my MBA program, we had our second year orientation at the Four Seasons hotel downtown Austin. It was a fun week: classes all day and hanging out all night. I'm pretty excited about this semester; I'm taking Finance and Entrepreneurial Growth, and both are supposed to be excellent learning experiences.

3/8 of the Way!

I just finished my third semester at the University of Texas McCombs School of Business Evening MBA program. Just five more to go! This month marks my one year anniversary in the program and I don't understand how another year zoomed by so quickly. In a few weeks I will be attending the second year orientation, a week-long "retreat" at the Four Seasons hotel in downtown Austin... free food and booze :) We will intermingle with third years as well as the first years: I'm going to be watching the next batch of some of the country's brightest struggle to be the best in front of a few hundred people they've never met. The second year orientation is supposed to be the best because we all already know each other and we don't have any major projects due (like the third years), so we're just taking it all in and relaxing while everyone else is panicking.

I can't believe how much I've learned in the past year--things about business that, at times, seems like common sense, but I never knew I knew it until it was pointed out to me. I've also already learned a number of tools in my classes that have already helped me in the business world. Here are the classes I've taken so far:

• Financial Accounting
• Managerial Statistics
• Managing People and Organizations
• Economics
• Marketing Management
• Operations Management
• Art and Science of Negotiations

My two favorite classes were 'Economics' and 'Negotiations' because the professors were amazing and the material was easy to grasp. I'm going to be taking 'Finance' and 'Entrepreneurial Growth' this next semester. Oh joy!

End of Semester #3

It's the end of my third B-school semester and I'll be spending the next couple weeks studying and preparing for exams. I should have some more posts after that.

Ace and Gary

Elaina and I have two new additions to the Howard family: Ace and Gary. These are two mice that escaped from Elaina's lab before any tests were done on them. They were later caught in a humane mouse trap, and instead of euthanizing them, we brought them home to pester Professor.

They are asleep in these pictures below. Maybe I'll post some new pictures when they're awake :)

Florida Trip

For our 2nd anniversary and Memorial Day getaway, Elaina and I went to Melbourne, Florida to hang out with Elaina's mom and dad (Melanie and Heiri). We had such a great time! 95% of the time was spent RELAXING, which is exactly what we needed after a stressful first half of 2007. Below are some highlights :)


The condo was about 30 feet from the ocean. The weather and ambiance were perfect.



Every morning and afternoon we all went on walks along the coast. Look how happy Heiri and Elaina are!



Inarguably the best part of the trip was meeting Heiri's daughter, Michelle, and her boyfriend Patrick, who flew down for Memorial Day weekend. Look at the interesting conversation they're having!



Michelle and Patrick made us drink a lot of alcohol.

Although we didn't take a cruise, we did get to drink a lot of beer before waving our asses off to the departing cruise ship.



I don't know why they had to put up a sign like this. I mean, everyone knows to poke out the eyes of a carcass before throwing it away. Remind me again why Elaina and I are now vegetarian??



Patrick and I were the only ones needing Burn Relief. Damn, that sun is hot!
And in case you were wondering, it does not say 'Bum Relief' on the front.



Every morning Heiri galloped through the condo ringing an authentic Swiss cowbell. If we were lucky enough to hear it, we got to see some amazing sunrises:

The Lynda Malone Foundation

In memory of a close friend who recently passed away to lung cancer, some friends and I set up a foundation in her name. We are collecting funds to donate to cancer research, with the goal of collecting $10,000 to begin an endowment fund that will donate yearly proceeds to further cancer studies.
